Wanna play summer sevens with us?

---**summer sevens is OVER for 2009**---
(but check back soon for updated info on Exiles rugby)

If you're a rugger (or wannabe rugger) over age 17 living around D.C. this summer-- come play summer sevens with UMD Women's Rugby and our friends/alums: the Exiles Women. Exiles and UMD are coming together this summer for our second season of sevens fun. Last year we traveled together to Philadelphia and Brooklyn, NYC-- and it was awesome.

For real: team member ages range from 17 to... well to the mothers of those 17 year olds. So whether you're fresh out of high school and brand new to the game or you've played a couple matches before-- feel free to come out for the week or the whole summer. (Although you will have to get CIPPed.)

Practice will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 7pm until dark at David Scull Park in Rockville. Email umdwomensrugby@gmail.com for more details or to arrange for a ride/carpool.

P.S. Are you wondering what the heck the difference is between 'sevens' (aka rugby league) and regular rugby (aka rugby union or fifteens)?

A quick break down of the differences:
Rugby Union is played with 15 players on each team and games last 80 minutes each. Although both games are played year round-- it is popular in the rugby community to play Union three seasons out of the year and League in the summer. Rugby League is played with seven players on each team and games are only 14 minutes long... So for sevens (unlike 15s) what we'll do is travel to a tournament and spend a Saturday there, usually playing about 5 games in a day.

Here are some youtube highlight links of sevens. It's pretty entertaining stuff.
